GEOLOGY AND ECOLOGY FIELD TRIPS
MINERAL EXPLORATION
Great Basin Expeditions offers all-day caravan style field trips to learn and enjoy the geology and scenery of the Great Basin. Special interest topics and unique geologic formations are discussed and examined in the field.
Each field trip includes:
• a summary of the geologic history of the Great Basin
• an explanation of the various landforms
• identification of rock types and their age
• a description of mineral deposits and their mode of origin
• a portfolio with a regional base map, geologic maps, field notes, and cross-sections
• an interactive hands-on examination of rocks, minerals, and fossils.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation, meals, water, motel, and field gear. A reliable vehicle, preferably a 4wd, camera, binoculars, a hammer, hand lens, notepad, sun screen, and hat are recommended.
